Rubicon (Sam Batford) Paperback. Ian Patrick
Two cops, both on different sides of the law – both with the same gangland boss in their sights. Sam Batford is a corrupt undercover officer with the Metropolitan Police who will stop at nothing to get his hands on fearsome crime-lord Vincenzo Guardino’s drug supply. DCI Klara Winter runs a team on the National Crime Agency, she’s also chasing down Guardino, but unlike Sam Batford she’s determined to bring the gangster to justice and get his drugs off the streets. Set in a time of austerity and police cuts where opportunities for corruption are rife, Rubicon is a tense, dark thriller that is definitely not for the faint hearted. ‘A taut, exciting and utterly authentic thriller with a compelling narrator’ – Louise Voss ‘A sharp, slick, gripping and compelling novel’ – Jane IsaacBuy Now
A Word from the Author: Ian Patrick
Before writing crime I spent twenty-seven years investigating it. Serious and Organised Crime was my day-to-day business. As a Detective Sergeant those years were great, the best of my life to date. Not, as you might assume, because of bashing down doors and locking up criminals. That had its moments for sure. It was about the people I met along the way that I look back on with fondness. Not just the decent minded citizens but the rebels and rogues that I engaged with on a daily basis too. London is unique in her inhabitants and that’s what makes her so special. When I first joined up in the late eighties there was a healthy respect on each side of the house from cop and criminal alike. Today, sadly, that’s gone. My writing focuses on how a good man can turn due to injury, trauma and austerity. It’s a dystopian take on the life of an undercover cop operating in the grips of a service on its knees in terms of cash and cops on the street. The BBC has optioned Rubicon for a six part TV series and is currently in development. Fahrenheit press is my publisher. If you like your crime fiction dark, urban and gritty with authentic realism then look no further. This is just the beginning; there will be more. Will you side with DS Sam Batford or DCI Klara Winter in the race for justice? You’ll have to read on to find out.
